Recycled Paper
Country: Mexico

The history of this workshop takes us back in time when on December of 1998 this workshop began as an occupation for one person. From the success of their products two youths were added to the project, Oscar and Alfredo (Oscar still works in the workshop and is now the coordinator). From March of 1999 it took the name of Tutu'u Racuati'i (The Paper of the Children) in mixteco. In May of the same year it was incorporated to the workshops of "Arts and Trades" of an NGO of alternative education called "Caminando Unidos" (Walking United). This educational project works with children and youngsters that live in excluded areas in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos.

From the beginning the Workshop has been devoted up to now to produce handmade recycled paper. These youngster have developed new varieties and technics of paper elaboration. They are true artists with their genius and ability not only produce the paper, but also products like: notebooks, bookmarks, invitations, business cards and envelopes. With a modest capacity of production and the support of people and institutions the revenues of the sales help them increase their income like artisans. To view sample of their products visit their online catalogue.

"I have stayed working in the Workhop because it is a work that allows me to receive money and it is flexible so that I can continue studying." Oscar

We believe that this space of artistic creation incites to the education in different disciplines as mathematics and writing in Spanish. Starting from the necessity of being better organized, they look for a broader knowledge.
