Teotihuacan The development of Teotihuacan was favored by its strategic location, the one which, at the same time allowed it to access to abundant natural resources of the Cuenca of Mexico and the control of the near obsidian deposits, it facilitated the communication and the exchange with other regions. During the Early Classic it ended up becoming the most important city in Mesoamerica, what contributed, among other factors, was their dimensions and their great population like the remarkable variety and quality of their cultural manifestations. In their acme, Teotihuacan was the nucleus of a wide system that covered at least three areas, each one with characteristic of its own, defined by the type of relationship, economic or political, that it settled with the city. Of the first area good part of the basic products was extracted for the population's maintenance. The products elaborated in the city were sold to the second area, although it also contributed with certain goods, as the characterisitic thin orange ceramic, manufactured in places of the south of Puebla, as Pedernal. In the third area Matacapan, Kaminaljuyú and Tikal were located, places considered by some authors like the only areas of influence of Teotihuacan, since they have met with evidence of an close relationship with this city. In Monte Alban and in some places of the Mayan area, as Tikal and Yakhá, registrations exist of characters' of filiation teotihuacana in recorded monuments. |
