Cuetzalan - Land of Quetzals. City with a height 900 meters over the level of the sea. The climate is tropical humid, the exuberant vegetation, with rains most of the year, and the temperature average of 18 centigrades.

Area of Totonac history with present nahua. Where several worlds cohabit at the same time. Preponderantly two indigenous ethnic groups (Totonac and Nahua) that can be confusing for the inexpert eye, together with the mestizo's presence (mixture of races: indigenous and Creole or European).

It is of the most important town in the Northern Sierra of Puebla. A demonstration of this its Sunday market that almost embraces the whole center of the town.

What can you visit?

* We suggest you to visit the bars of the zocalo -center plaza- (Bar "El Calete"), so you can taste the typical regional wines made of fruits like: maracuya, coffee, tamarind, vanilla, coconut, berry, strawberry, nut, peanut, apple, mango, lemon, orange, among others.

Fairs & Fiestas

* During the first week of October of every year the National Fair of the Coffee and the Huipil takes place in Cuetzalan. The Fair of the Coffee is born like a necessity to celebrate what has come to be the economic sustenance of the municipality from 1949. The Fair of the Huipil is an expression where prehispanic rituals come together with the current necessities of the municipality and the fair dates from 1963.

* One of the most important dates in the year for Cuetzalan is October 4, day of San Francisco from Assisi that takes place with dances and rituals of the whole region.

To visit Cuetzalan is an opportunity to visit the Mexico where many cultures are conjugated. It is the pleasure of walking its streets with marked slopes and to sweat thanks to the subtropical atmosphere. To see colors and smell scents of the market, their agricultural products, the tobacco, the products for the home. Together with these colors of a Mexican market it's a chance to see the colors of the indigenous dress of the region. The journey in bus from the zigzag highway is compensated when arriving to this place. Getting There

Bus: Puebla-Cuetzalan (from the terminal CAPU) with buses from 6:30 until 19:30 hrs (buses leaving every hour). Cuetzalan-Puebla from 5:00 until 17:30 hrs (every hour). There is also transport from the Mexico City in the bus company "Mexico-Texcoco".
