If you are searching for the cultural activities

Beginning with the town of Tzintzuntzan and following the highway arrive at the town of Erongaricuaro for a complete day of cultural encounter. There are artisans' shops and of course craft in each town, indigenous communities Purépechas, archaeological areas in Tzintzuntzan and Ihuatzio, folkloric dance in the island of Janitzio, delicious regional food and much more. You can also learn how to make food and regional crafts in special shops.

There is a very interesting journey at night in boat in the Lake of Pátzcuaro with music of the region and legends of the lake. An experience to learn and to appreciate the incredible cultural wealth that the indigenous communities of Michoacán have.

If you are looking for adventure

The town of Santa Fe de la Laguna is located to the north of the lake of Pátzcuaro. From there you can take a walk to the Hill El Zirate, 3340 meters high above the level of the sea being the third highest point of Michoacán. The area has local guides that will show you the road and they will tell stories and legends of the rich and fascinating history of the town (very advisable, but it is necessary to arrive a day before to organize the journey or to go with an operator). From the summit there is a beautiful view of the Lake of Pátzcuaro, Quiroga, the hills around Morelia and sometimes to León, Guanajuato. Definitively one of the most beautiful views in the state.

· There is a journey to the archaeological sites of Ihuatzio and Tzintzuntzan that goes by a hill on the lake. The whole area is full with archaeological ruins that have not still been developed as tourist attractions. It is a journey of more or less three hours.

Getting There

To arrive to Morelia from the highway Mexico - Guadalajara, turn on the junction to Morelia and it is necessary to follow the highway towards the city, its three and a half hours from Mexico and three hours from Guadalajara. Entering to Morelia look for signs for the road to Pátzcuaro. You will see signs for Pátzcuaro, but they are for the freeway that is a beautiful journey through some towns and it takes one hour with fifteen minutes in arriving. If you want to arrive to Pátzcuaro faster, it is better to go straight until you arrive to a deviation for Pátzcuaro - Uruapan. It's 45 minutes to arrive to the deviation for the highway of the Lake.
