The New Ecoturismolatino

Content

Editorial

Ecoturismolatino in its search to provide relevant and useful information about ecotourism in Latin America has decided to transform itself into a online Guide of Parks & Protected Areas. Such transformation differentiates our content from any other international website which positions Ecoturismolatino in front of online content of the natural protected areas of Latin America. Together with this new information supply it is our responsibility to promote an ethical travel to these natural settings, and hence we have created a whole section dedicated to "Responsible Tourism" theory and action. Welcome then to the new Ecoturismolatino!

Natural Protected Areas (NPAs)

At this moment we are starting to increase our content on the Parks and Protected Areas of Mexico mainly, and the information is mostly in Spanish, but will be translated shortly. Here are the national parks that are new in our website. Every month we will be including new parks, so keep in touch for further information.

Responsible Tourism

Responsible Tourism is a way of travel that respects the natural environment and benefits the cultural and social contexts of the destinations we visit. Our interest is to make sure that we all learn to be "responsible travellers" or how we call oruselves "ecotravellers" to the natural protected areas of Latin America. In this section of the eBulletin we will be discussing topics with regard to responsible tourism and presenting new articles we include in our section "Responsible Tourism".

Promotions & Discounts

Ecoturismolatino through its EcoEntrepreneur's Program has joined efforts with ecotour operators and ecolodges in Latin America to offer 5% discounts to all members of Ecoturismolatino which have a valid Discount Card. The following companies now offer such discounts to all EcoTravellers:

Books

This month the webmaster of Ecoturismolatino recommends two books:

The first one is written by David A. Fennell with the title "Ecotourism: an introduction" which is an excellent text book for students of ecotourism. It covers the topics of definition, background of ecotourism, the ecotourist, social and enviromental impacts of tourism, policies and professionalism, economics, management and marketing of ecotourism, international development of ecotourism and the ethics of ecotourism. As an introduction it is a very well written book and it points us to further reading with its vast reference list.

The second book is written by Marcus L. Endicott called "Vagabond Globetrotting 3: The Electronic Traveler in the New Millennium". A book filled with references of websites, forums and online information about travel, tourism and other related topics. You can subscribe to the egroup moderated by the author by visiting his website: http://www.mendicott.com/
