"El Tepozteco" National Park
Country: Mexico.

The National Park "The Tepozteco" was decreed on January 22, 1937. It is part of the Area of Protection of Flora and Fauna " Chichinautzin Biological Corridor" in the state of Morelos. Its territorial extension covers 24,000 hectares. It could be considered in most of the extension as a pine forest and low-deciduous oak and fir forest.
One can access the National Park directly from the town of Tepoztlán, Morelos.

The beauty of the hills that conform this National Park is of international fame, they have been attributed energy and healing powers. Some people claim to have seen UFO's, but the only thing palpable are the stores with occult & esoteric products that fill the town.

The Tepozteco is an excellent place to carry out hiking excursions on foot or on horses (in the valleys). It is also a place where many is practice rock climbing and it is home to the archaeological site "Tepozteco" that you can visit after a walk of 2.25 km up the hill.

Some species of the present flora in The Tepozteco are: Tronadora (tecoma straus), Ocote (pinus teocote), Cahualagua (helium carpus), Tepeguaje (lysiloma acapulcensis) and Lacaloxuchitl (plumeria rubra L.)

The landscape changes a lot from the dry season to the rainy season. From a brown color scenery with green spots, it passes to an intense dark green.

Examples of the present fauna in the Park are: White-tailed Deer (ococoileus virginians), Coatí (nasua narica), Ajolote (pseudoeurycea belli), Cacomixtle (bassariscus astutus) and the Owl (stryx virgata).

Mammals 48 species (3 endemic)
Birds 204 species (20 endemic)
Reptiles 42 species
Amphibians 10 species
Insects More than 250 species

Ecoturismolatino's Opinion

This Park is one of my (webmaster) favorite ones, it's near to my home town, where I have climbed, camped, hiked and once I was lost in the mountains.

You can also visit the archaeological site "Tepozteco", and the town of Tepoztlan.
